Kites have had many uses besides being fun. They have been used in ancient times for testing the wind, measuring distances, signaling, and for communication. They have also been used to create art as in the incredible aerial ballets. A “Kite Sculpturing” art activity was the first focus of our “Dazzle” activities.
Many kites are designed to be beautiful pieces of art. Let the children create pieces of art by using colorful paper kite shapes and yarn or string in a collage on pieces of 11”x17” black construction paper. Have the children cleverly hide a special message in their kite collage. They can then exchange their “art” with each other and try to find the hidden messages
